On most islands the pool is where you go when the beach gets tiring. On Maui the pool is frequently the reason you chose the resort. The island’s two luxury enclaves — Wailea on the south shore and Kapalua / Kāʻanapali in the west — have spent the last several years in an arms race of lazy rivers, lava-tube slides, adults-only infinity edges, and cabanas that cost more than the room once did. Having spent a week moving between them, here is how the best pools in Maui actually stack up, who each one is built for, and whether you can get in without a room key.
Quick Picks
- Best for kids, full stop: Grand Wailea’s Wailea Canyon Activity Pool
- Best slides: Wailea Beach Resort (Hawaii’s longest resort slide, 325 feet)
- Best adults-only pool: Four Seasons Maui’s Serenity Pool
- Best quiet luxury: The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua
- Best infinity views: Andaz Maui’s cascading pools; The Westin Maui’s adults-only deck
- Best day pass: Andaz Maui and Hyatt Regency Maui (from $75)
1. Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort — Wailea
There is nothing else like it in Hawaii. The Wailea Canyon Activity Pool is 25,700 square feet of water across nine pools on six levels, linked by a 2,000-foot river that alternates between whitewater rapids and a drifting lazy current. Inside it: five intertwining slides, a Tarzan rope swing, a sand-bottom baby beach, six waterfalls, caves, jungle pools, three whirlpools, and a swim-up bar. Then there’s the Lava Tube — a 262-foot enclosed slide with a three-story drop, a full 360-degree turn, and 14 seconds of darkness at up to 22 mph (riders must be over 48 inches). The resort’s $350 million renovation, which also brought Nobu to the property, has left the whole complex looking new.
For adults, the 4,850-square-foot Hibiscus Pool (18+) sits apart from the chaos with a floor mosaic of more than 630,000 glass tiles forming a giant hibiscus, two whirlpools, and reservable cabanas and casabellas.

- Best for: Families with kids 5–15; anyone who wants a water park with Waldorf service
- Non-guests: No. Pools are wristband-only for registered guests; the only day pass sold is for the spa.

2. Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott, Maui — Wailea
Grand Wailea’s next-door rival has answered with four distinct pool areas across 22 acres. The NALU Adventure Pool has four slides including the 325-foot run that is the longest resort water slide in Hawaii, splash zones for younger kids, an upper dive pool used for scuba lessons, and its own pool bar. The ʻOhi Pools are two oceanfront, all-ages pools with whirlpools next to Kapa Bar & Grill. For adults there are two options: the signature Maluhia Pool, an 18+ infinity-edge pool with cabanas, casabellas, and Sunset’s Bar; and the new Olakino Wellness Experience, a reservable adults-only sanctuary with an infinity saline pool, in-water chaises, daybeds, and chef-curated food.

- Best for: Families who want slides and parents who want an escape hatch
- Non-guests: Yes. Day passes are sold directly and via ResortPass (from about $120; Olakino access from $300).

3. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea — Wailea
Four Seasons Maui doesn’t compete on size; it competes on service. The adults-only (21+) Serenity Pool is the island’s benchmark grown-up pool: an infinity edge looking across to Lānaʻi and the West Maui Mountains, an underwater music system, a freestanding swim-up bar, “bubble loungers” in the water, and poolside spa treatments until 5 p.m. The Fountain Pool below is the saltwater all-ages centerpiece under royal palms, open around the clock, and the Waterfall Pool is purpose-built for children. All three are saltwater. The famous Four Seasons touches — complimentary hourly treats, Evian spritzes, chilled towels, cabanas decorated with Gray Malin prints — are what you’re paying for.
- Best for: Couples, honeymooners, and families who value calm over slides
- Non-guests: No day-pass program.

4. Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui — Wailea
Fresh off a top-to-bottom transformation, the all-suite Fairmont Kea Lani runs three pools: two family lagoon pools on upper and lower levels connected by a 140-foot water slide, and an adults-only tranquility pool facing Kō, the resort’s signature restaurant. AMA Bar & Grill sits at the upper pool with a swim-up bar and a wraparound lānai, and the ground-floor Poolside Suites open directly onto the deck — the single best room category on Maui for families with small kids.

- Best for: Families with toddlers (that Poolside Suite), multigenerational groups
- Non-guests: Yes, via ResortPass (adults from about $75–125, kids from $35).

5. Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort — Wailea
The most photographed pools on the island: a series of cascading infinity pools stepping down the hillside toward Mokapu Beach, so that from the upper decks the water appears to pour straight into the Pacific. The family-friendly Bumbye lagoon pool anchors the lower level next to the beach bar, and a separate adults-only Tranquility pool sits apart. The infinity tiers are deep and dramatic rather than kid-shallow, which is part of why the Andaz skews toward couples and design-minded travelers. (Note: the adults-only pool is closed for maintenance through mid-November 2026, with an upper deck serving as adults-only in the meantime.)
- Best for: Couples, Instagram, cocktail-hour swims
- Non-guests: Yes — one of the best day-pass values on Maui (from about $75 via ResortPass; adults-only spa-and-pool pass from $175).

6. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali — Kāʻanapali
The Westin’s Kawaiola Aquatic Playground spreads six pools across 87,000 square feet above Kāʻanapali Beach: a Keiki Splash Zone with a dozen spray jets, a mini slide and waterfall for small kids, and a 270-foot water slide for the rest. The newly redesigned adults-only deck at the top of the waterfalls is the surprise — a sand-bottom infinity-edge pool and whirlpool with views of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi, served by its own bar. The resort’s dew-drop-shaped bamboo cabanas (the “Nā Hale”) are among the best-looking on the island.

- Best for: Families splitting time between kids’ pools and the beach; adults who want an infinity view in West Maui
- Non-guests: Yes, via ResortPass (from about $289 with a dining credit; family passes from $229).

7. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa — Kāʻanapali
The original Maui mega-pool, and still a kid magnet: six free-form pool areas with waterfalls, a 150-foot enclosed lava-tube slide, a swinging rope bridge, a whirlpool, and a shallow sandy Keiki Lagoon with its own 25-foot slide. The Grotto Bar hides beneath two waterfalls between the main pools and is exactly the kind of thing a ten-year-old will remember forever. Guests also get access to the adjacent Hyatt Residence Club’s quieter pools, including a zero-entry lagoon and an infinity relaxation pool. There is no true adults-only pool on the Regency side.
- Best for: Kids under 12, grandparents with kids under 12
- Non-guests: Yes, via ResortPass (from about $75–85).

8. The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua — Kapalua
The anti-water-park. The Ritz-Carlton’s three-tiered pool steps down the hillside above D.T. Fleming Beach with cascading edges between levels, in-water loungers, whirlpools, a children’s pool, and a row of sleek cabanas along the top terrace with Wi-Fi, TV, and mini-fridges — the result of the resort’s $100 million transformation. ʻOlu Poolside handles food and cocktails at the water’s edge, and the pool is open around the clock for guests. It’s smaller and quieter than anything in Wailea, which is the whole appeal. We spent a full day here; here’s how to do it.

- Best for: Quiet luxury, couples, families who’d rather boogie board than slide
- Non-guests: Yes, via ResortPass (from about $145; cabanas from $700).

9. The Resort at Kapalua Bay (formerly Montage Kapalua Bay) — Kapalua
A heads-up first: this property left the Montage brand in March 2026, is now managed by Marriott as The Resort at Kapalua Bay, and will convert to a St. Regis in 2027 after a renovation — it stays open throughout. What hasn’t changed is the multi-tiered, cascading lagoon pool above Kapalua Bay, with the zero-edge Sunset (Serenity) Pool at the top, The Beach Club Pool at the oceanfront, and a separate infinity Spa Pool. Cabanas and daybed packages (prosecco and fruit included) are available, and the residences have private plunge pools. Worth watching as the St. Regis flag arrives.

- Best for: Residential-style stays, snorkelers (Kapalua Bay is right there)
- Non-guests: No day-pass program.
- marriott.com
10. Hotel Wailea, Relais & Châteaux — Wailea
Maui’s only adults-only (18+) luxury hotel has, naturally, an adults-only pool — a single, serene pool on a hillside above Wailea with the West Maui Mountains and Lānaʻi across the water, complimentary first-come cabanas included in the resort fee, and reserved cabanas with living-room furniture and cocktail service for a fee. The Cabanas by the pool serves lunch and drinks, and you can even book IV therapy poolside. It’s small, and that’s the point: the resort has 72 suites and the pool never feels shared.

- Best for: Honeymoons, anniversaries, anyone who never wants to hear a cannonball
- Non-guests: No.

Planning Notes
- Cabanas sell out. At Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, and the Ritz-Carlton, book cabanas when you book the room, not when you arrive.
- Height rules are real. The big slides at Grand Wailea and Wailea Beach Resort require 48 inches; Fairmont’s slide requires 31.
- Day passes are a loophole worth knowing. If you’re staying in a condo or vacation rental, a $75 Andaz or Hyatt Regency pass buys a resort day without the resort rate. ResortPass is the common booking channel; prices move with season.
- Pick your coast. Wailea has the spectacle; Kapalua has the quiet. Our guide to the best luxury hotels in Maui covers the rooms behind these pools.
