Welcome to the Canary – Santa Barbara’s Luxury Boutique Hotel

Canary Santa Barbara's Luxury Boutique Hotel

What do you love most about Santa Barbara? Perhaps the incredible coastal views or the Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival architecture. Alternatively, maybe you appreciate the distinctive neighborhoods of the city and the peaceful tranquility of its outlying regions. In either case, The Canary Hotel encapsulates everything Santa Barbara in a luxury boutique experience that is as laid-back and casual as the area itself.

The Canary is proud to offer luxury accommodations without embracing stuffy traditionalism. The property is located on West Camarillo, just one block from State Street and the historic downtown district. That means it is also at the center of Santa Barbara’s arts, culture and dining. Within easy walking distance, you will find all the local hot spots, letting you truly experience what coastal California is really like.

The Property

The Canary features Spanish Colonial architecture and complementary furnishings throughout. You will feel right at home relaxing on a tastefully elegant sofa or enjoying the splendid art on display throughout the property. From the breathtaking rooftop pool deck, you’ll enjoy spectacular 360° views of the entire city and the distant mountains. Be sure to properly allocate time to sufficiently enjoy the rooftop pool, as it’s the only one in the city. If the beach is your preferred spot for relaxation, it is only a mile away.

Hotel amenities will complete your stay at The Canary. As a guest, you will enjoy an evening wine tour with the hotel’s Master Sommelier, in-room spa services, complementary bicycles for getting around the city, and a rooftop lounge and pool area reserved for guests only. First thing in the morning, there is complimentary coffee and tea service in the lobby, and if you need assistance with anything you have planned for the day, a concierge is on hand to help.

The Accommodations

The accommodations at The Canary are all about Santa Barbara style and ambiance. Inspired by the famous Canary Islands in Spain, each of the rooms and suites reflects the fact that the city is known as the “American Rivera.” Hardwood floors provide a warm and welcoming environment while over-sized French doors open to reveal fantastic views. As for spaciousness, that’s a given. Each of the rooms offers a minimum of 300 square feet of living space.

In-room amenities include:

  • fully stocked bar including gourmet offerings
  • luxurious Italian Frette linens
  • pillow-top beds with down pillows and comforters
  • free, on-demand fitness TV and yoga mats
  • iHome alarm and sound system

Dining and Wellness

The Canary wants your stay to be fully complete. To that end, the hotel offers exquisite dining at the Finch and Fork and Rooftop Perch restaurants. Both feature authentic local cuisine and an excellent wine list. While visiting The Canary we enjoyed Finch and Fork, which was overhauled and renamed just over a year ago. The restaurant is a perfect companion to the hotel, yet should certainly be enjoyed by those that aren’t staying at the hotel as well. It has an expansive wine and cocktail menu that you can enjoy within the restaurant or at the bar. For food you can expect local and fresh ingredients. Some of our favorites included their unique take at Deviled Eggs, Roasted Beet Salad, Wil Mushroom flatbed, Baby Back Pork Ribs, and the Buttermilk Friend Chicken on Tuesday’s!

To promote the wellness of guests, The Canary offers in-room spa services as well as access to the Spectrum Club located directly next door. Both options will help you achieve total relaxation of mind and body.

The Canary is Santa Barbara’s premier luxury boutique hotel. For an oceanfront alternative, see our review of The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, or head inland to The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern for wine-country luxury. Make your reservations today for an unforgettable experience on the American Riviera.

LUX Tip: Take the complimentary bikes to the beach, and then on your way back hit the Urban Wine Trail in downtown for some afternoon tastings.

Nightly rates at Canary start at $240.
