Genting Plans $3B Miami Mega Resort

Malaysian hotel operator, Genting Group, is one step closer to realizing the fulfillment of its plans to build a brand-new resort and casino complex in Miami, Florida. Genting recently announced the purchase of the last remaining mortgage debt on Miami’s Omni Center at a price tag of USD $161 million. The Omni Center is a mixed-use property already divided into retail, hotel, and commercial space. It will become part of a 14 acre complex at the edge of the Biscayne Bay.

When the complex is finally finished it will consist of a convention centre, residential buildings, and four hotels. One of the buildings will even have a rooftop lagoon. The first phase of the project is the Resorts World Miami hotel, which will open its doors in the fall of next year. The entire project is being designed by the Arquitectonica architectural firm with a total budget of USD $3 billion.

Bellagio Showcases Newly Remodeled Rooms

Five-diamond distinction is the calling card of Bellagio Las Vegas, a premier resort in one of the world’s premier destinations. That distinction has been taken one step further with the unveiling of the hotel’s newly remodeled guest rooms.

The design group at MGM Resorts International provided the talent to inspire three new color schemes with palettes corresponding to individual design concepts. Guests staying in Resort King Rooms will have choices of indigo and silver or green tea and plum. In the Resort Queen rooms guests will enjoy a butterscotch and amber palette. In Lakeview rooms all three motifs are available.

The new room designs feature the utmost in elegance and tasteful decoration right – down to the botanical accents created exclusively for the Bellagio. Each room has been designed to provide a contemporary feel combined with unparalleled luxury; the centerpiece of the space being a dresser and wardrobe that are more than simply furniture. Made with eucalyptus and natural stone, the pieces capture the imagination when you first enter the room. Inside you’ll find a fully stocked mini-bar, snacks, multimedia connections, and eight drawers with plenty of space to accommodate your stay.

Spokane’s Davenport Hotel Gives Another Reason to Visit

The historic Davenport Hotel in downtown Spokane, Washington has been a favorite destination for businessmen and luxury hotel connoisseurs ever since its opening in the early 1900s. But today the hotel has given us another reason to visit; a reason that has everything to do with protecting the environment. Earlier this year the U.S. Green Building Council awarded the hotel’s famous tower LEED Gold certification for meeting green standards. It is the only hotel in the state of Washington, and only one of 33 in the entire world, to be awarded LEED Gold certification.

This achievement is nothing new for the Davenport, a world-class luxury hotel that has been leading the world for decades. When it was built the Davenport was as luxurious as the world’s finest ocean liners. And since those early years, the owners have kept the hotel at the forefront of the hospitality industry. If you’ve never visited the Davenport, it certainly belongs on your list of “must see” properties.

Welcome to the New Tiffany’s Suite at St. Regis New York

Two of New York’s most famous luxury landmarks have joined together to open a brand-new opportunity of luxury. Manhattan’s historic 5th Ave. is home to the St. Regis hotel and Tiffany & Co., and now the new Tiffany Suite at St. Regis as well. With both companies being classic New York institutions in their own right, there’s no other place on earth to combine both into a one-of-a-kind suite experience.

The hotel itself was built in 1904 as one of New York’s finest of the day. That reputation continues to live on not only in the St. Regis reputation for elegance and customer service, but also in the graceful and grandiose architecture. Beautiful carved crown moldings, elegant chandeliers, and a liberal, but tasteful, use of marble lets guests know they’ve entered a special place. Combined with the Tiffany & Co. reputation for providing the world’s finest jewelry and accessories to the most discriminating buyers, the historic hotel building provides the perfect atmosphere.

Groupon and Expedia Partner for Travel Deals

Over the last 10 years online travel sites offering discounted deals have seen great success. And about three years ago, the new Groupon concept of group coupon shopping deals also hit the Internet, also to explosive success. Now the two industries have come together in a recently announced joint venture between Groupon and Expedia. The two companies are partnering to launch a brand-new website geared at connecting travellers with deeply discounted deals all across the globe.

The new website will be offered in the U.S. and Canada to start, then later in other countries. Right away users will have access to deals from more than 135,000 hotels and resorts already working with Expedia. The service will work similar to Groupon in a model that presents users with new deals at regular intervals. Users can claim those deals, within a limited time frame, in order to receive a voucher to be used sometime in the future. Dates for booking the actual travel are flexible.

It remains to be seen exactly what the final product will look like, but Groupon and Expedia both expect the site to be very successful. With millions of regular users already between them, the two companies are holding out hope that their partnership is one that will set the course for the future of discounted travel online.

Marriott International Planning New Downtown L.A. Property

Marriott International could be poised to take a larger slice of the downtown L.A. hotel pie if plans to build a new 377-room property come to fruition. Marriott would not own the property themselves, but they would operate the hotel under their Courtyard and Residence brand names. When complete, the 22-floor property would help meet a demand that grew by about 24% last year.

Marriott already operates two other hotels within the same general vicinity and a third only seven blocks away. However, company officials cite the fact that all of their different brands cater to a variety of travelers across a wide spectrum of tastes and financial means. For this reason it isn’t uncommon for Marriott properties to be clustered close together. Furthermore, the new hotel would be very close to the L.A. Live Center that, in tandem with the Staples Center now hosts as many as 300 events per year.

Building the $120 million hotel campus is Oregon developer Williams/Dame & Associates, the same company that developed three condominium properties in L.A.’s South Park district. Officials from the firm are quick to point out that hotel properties are less expensive and easier to construct because the rooms are uniform. They believe that investing in a new luxury hotel in downtown L.A., which they would own, is a fairly safe bet.
